Seeing all the enthusiasm U of L and UK fans have for their upcoming rematch and the emotions they have invested in the outcome, I ask myself:
Wouldn't it be nice if we could transplant just a little of that intense pride and passion into other areas – like our state legislature?
While both the Cards and Cats have already accomplished more than 99% of their basketball peers, neither will be satisfied with a loss Saturday. Because they can still achieve more.
Compare that with the performance of Kentucky's state legislators during the current session.
With only days left in the session, our lawmakers have again accomplished little, wasting precious time on a bungled redistricting plan, refusing to let the voters decide on casino gambling and failing to implement any tax reform. Yet many of them are declaring the session a success because at least they'll actually pass a budget this time around.
Talk about setting the bar low…
I'd like to know your thoughts about how so many Kentucky citizens can quote every statistic on every player in the Final Four, how we can watch every move of our basketball coaches, second guess them and absolutely hold them accountable, yet we don't hold our state legislators accountable at all? Why do they get a free pass for failing so consistently?
Call and tell us.
