KY to share prescription dispensing info with other states

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky is turning to other states to crack down on its prescription drug problems.

Gov. Steve Beshear says he will sign an agreement to share and receive drug dispensing information with at least 20 other states to help Kentucky monitor drug abuse.

The state has joined the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy's Prescription Monitoring InterConnect program.

Prescription drug abuse continues to be a major problem in Kentucky, with prescription drug deaths have beginning to outnumber the number of deaths attributed to car accidents in the state.
