Second Street Bridge closes for Thunder preparations

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- You could call it the unofficial start of Thunder over Louisville -- the closing of the Second Street Bridge, as crews begin to install fireworks.

About 9:30 on Thursday morning, LMPD officers blocked the entrance to the bridge in downtown Louisville.  A crew of 24 Zambelli Fireworks workers began installing fireworks on the bridge -- a process that will continue on Friday and Saturday.

They will install and test each element of the fireworks show.  Pyrotechnician Zelletski says, "A lot of people really don't realize there is so much time, visible effort, and mental aptitude that has to be involved doing this, and the only thing that we hope is that everybody does watch and appreciate...what we do for them."

"It's not like you just go out there and put out a little piece of a thing and light a match," Zelletski continued.  "There is a ton involved with this, a ton of work, a ton of effort."

More than 100,000 pieces of product will be installed on the bridge and on the barges.  Zambelli is promising something new during this year's show, but its nature is being kept top-secret.
