Number of downtown, East End bridge contractors narrowed

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The finalists to build a new Interstate 65 bridge over the Ohio River in downtown Louisville and rebuild Spaghetti Junction have been narrowed from five to three, and the finalists for the East End bridge have been cut down from six to four.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet made the announcement on the downtown bridge on Monday.  It had been delayed a week because the Kentucky General Assembly didn't pass a transportation budget until late last week.

Those finalists are Ohio River Transportation Constructors, Skanska, Flatiron, Dragados USA, and Walsh Construction Company.  They will spend the summer coming up with specific proposals including details of possible designs and how much they will cost.

The winning team is expected to be selected in October, with construction beginning before the end of the year.  The downtown part of the Ohio River Bridges Project is expected to be completed by June 2018.

Indiana selected four teams from a list of six for the East End bridge.  They are East End Mobility Partners, Ohio River Mobility Group, Ohio River Transportation Partners, and WVB East End Partners.
