LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a man who has been unemployed since February decided to make some money selling Freon at a deep discount. There was just one problem: the Freon wasn't his to sell.
According to the arrest report, 42-year-old Shane A. Tucker entered a locked storage area of Air Comfort of Kentucky in the 3900 block of Bishop Lane and removed 40 tanks of Freon. Police say the Freon was valued at $300 per tank -- or $14,100 for the pallet of 40 tanks.
Police say Tucker the sold a total of nine tanks of the Freon to a competitor in Elizabethtown for $100 per tank. The business owner wrote Tucker a check for $900 for the Freon, but later became suspicious and notified Air Comfort. Company officials from Air Comfort were able to verify that the tanks had been stolen
Tucker allegedly told police he had only taken the nine tanks that were sold to the E'town company. He also tried to buy the Freon back from the E'town business owner while police were on the scene.
Tucker was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. He's charged with burglary and theft by unlawful taking over $10,000.
