Group wants to raise awareness of child abuse

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The group Partnership to Eliminate Child Abuse wants to partner with the media and other groups to raise awareness through videos, public service announcements, and advertisements.

That's why it was founded early this year by Kentucky's two children's hospitals and three medical schools.  It now includes Indiana's two children's hospitals and Indiana University.

Children's Hospital Medical Director Stephen Wright explains part of the goal is, "To be able to provide information.  Where there's the next death, there will be tools, kits to pass on to families, danger signs.  You want to recognize these are things you can do when you get frustrated."

Kentucky has been ranked near the top in child abuse deaths for about the last decade.
