LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A suspected thief who police say took advantage of an opportunity for easy money to snatch hundreds of dollars in cash had his dream of easy money snatched away just as quickly by alert witnesses and police.
According to an arrest report, a worker at a Papa John's concession stand in Cardinal Stadium at Third and Central told police someone grabbed about $1,000 in cash from the business and took off running with it around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Employees and passersby chased the suspect down and caught the suspect -- identified as 35-year-old Corey E. Bates -- in the 500 block of M Street and held him until officers arrived. Police say the subject admitted stealing the money after seeing it out in the open.
Witnesses had already recovered more than $700 of the stolen money before officers arrested Bates. He's charged with theft by unlawful taking.
