Commission upholds jockey suspension after arrest

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Suspended jockey Robby Albarado has lost his initial bid to resume his riding career since his arrest on an assault charge.

A committee of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on Wednesday turned down the veteran rider's request to have his suspension lifted. Albarado was suspended in Kentucky following the May 4 arrest, but has also been unable to ride in other states that are honoring the decision.

Albarado is third on the all-time wins list at Churchill Downs. He appeared before the committee earlier Wednesday in Lexington along with his attorney.

The committee continued his case until the criminal case is resolved.

Police charged Albarado with assault after a woman said he threw her to the floor.
