"Click it or Ticket" campaign kicks off next week

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are warning drivers if you're not wearing a seat belt, expect to get a ticket.

The annual "Click it or Ticket" campaign kicks off next week just ahead of Memorial Day.  That means police are cracking down on drivers not following the law.

Kentucky has a primary seat belt law, meaning drivers can be stopped and cited if anyone in your car is unbuckled.

LMPD's Lt. Larry Seelye says, "I'm asking parents to make a game out of it. When you get into your car, challenge your kids to see who can put that seatbelt on the quickest. Kids challenge your parents. My eight year old daughter challenges me every time to see who will win putting that seatbelt on and I most of the time lose, she's just a lot quicker than I am.  I think she cheats."

Last year, 721 people were killed in car accidents in Kentucky.  Police say 338 of them were not wearing seatbelts.
