Lafayette, Louisiana, based Safety Management Systems is expanding its reach westward, having just acquired Safety and Training Consultants, Inc, an occupational safety, health and environmental services company in California’s San Joaquin Valley.
Lafayette, LA (PRWEB) May 17, 2012
Safety Management Systems (SMS) is expanding its reach westward, as they have just acquired Safety and Training Consultants, Inc. (STCI), an occupational safety, health and environmental services company in California’s San Joaquin Valley.
STCI was formed in 2002 by Michael Jaurena, after working for 17 years at a major oil and gas production company. STCI has worked for and supported companies such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, Bechtel, Aera Energy, Boeing, PXP and Occidental Petroleum in the domestic and international arenas.
Jim Shackelford will be transferring from SMS’ Mandeville, Louisiana, offices and will take over as regional manager of what will be known as SMS’ West Coast Regional Office, after shadowing Jaurena. In addition to all 35 employees of STCI staying on with SMS, Jaurena will become the business development manager.
While the work that SMS will be undertaking will be very similar to what they do already, they will also be obtaining STCI’s project management and industrial hygiene projects, a new venture for SMS that will likely expand to their other operations.
SMS will soon be establishing an office for that region in Bakersfield, California, well-known for being the most prolific oil producing county in the United States. It will also serve, for the time being, as a management hub for SMS’ new Alaska operations.
SMS President Scott Domingue said, “We are very excited about acquiring an incredible company like Safety and Training Consultants, not only because of the value of having an office in such a prosperous region but also because we are gaining an extremely professional and experienced staff who have the skills to build a solid safety culture for our clients.”
