LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Volunteers are taking time to bring a little art to boarded up homes.
"Vacant abandoned properties, owners that have just left the properties, Metro Government has to board them up so rather than the plain plywood with those big ugly numbers we decided to bring college kids, volunteers, and a lot of famous artists have come out here to paint a board," says Special Events Coordinator CJ Fletcher.
Twelve vacant homes are boarded up every day in Louisville.
Blight Out and Brighten Up is an event aimed at making the abandoned houses more cheerful, to fight property deterioration and to stop the decrease of property values.
Participants were free to paint anything of their choosing using the donated materials.
They painted about a hundred boards Saturday.
Another event is planned for June 6th.
