Study: Ohio River Bridges to bring thousands of jobs

Posted: Updated:

Louisville, Ky. (WDRB) -- New Ohio River Bridges will bring 18,000 new jobs to the area over the next 30 years.

That's the finding of the latest economic impact study, revealed at Tuesday morning's Bridges Authority meeting.

Meanwhile, Kentucky Transportation leaders are in one-on-one's with the three firms named as finalists to build a new downtown bridge and revamp Spaghetti Junction.

Indiana will hire a firm to build an East End bridge.

But there is new concern coming out of Indiana. Jeffersonville and New Albany city councils want only one bridge built and tolls taken off the project.

Bridge officials say they're close to federal approval on tolls.

"We like to talk about the project is as opposed to what it isn't, and you heard a lot today about what it is, and it looks like it's going to happen by the end of the year," says Steve Schultz of the Ohio River Bridges Authority.

The Ohio River Bridges Project is expected to cost $2.6 billion.
