Frayser Elementary teacher charged with assault

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A second grade teacher at Frayser Elementary is facing assault charges.

Police say 38-year-old Michelle Lynn was arrested Wednesday morning at the school.

JCPS spokeswoman confirms that Lynn has been a teacher at Frayser since August of 1997. Roberts says the charge against Lynn is not related to her employment, but school officials plan to meet with her to discuss the situation as soon as possible.

Lynn is accused of trying to take her 9-year-old daughter away from the child's grandmother after a court ordered Lynn to have no contact with the child.

Court records say Lynn grabbed the child outside the grandmother's house on May 18.

According to an arrest warrant, when the grandmother tried to pull Lynn away from the child, Lynn struck the woman in her face and jaw twice. That's when the woman took the child inside the home. The warrant says Lynn tried to follow, but left the scene after she was blocked by the woman's boyfriend.

Court records indicate Lynn is involved in a court case involving alleged neglect and drug abuse. The woman's son has temporary custody of the child, and Lynn was ordered on May 9 to have no contact with the child after allegedly failing a routine drug test.

The grandmother suffered swelling to one finger and said her jaw was sore.

Lynn faces charges of fourth-degree assault.
