LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The heat is on, and we have tips on how to stay cool this steamy holiday weekend.
An unseasonably strong ridge of upper level high pressure will be paying us a visit and bringing with it the hottest conditions we've seen since last summer. In fact, the heat index could eclipse the triple digit mark just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
With many outdoor events planned, including the Kentucky Reggae Festival, preparations are being made to keep the public cool.
Of course there are some things you can do to help yourself stay cool:
-- Stay hydrated -- drink plenty of water.
-- Take frequent breaks during the heat of the day.
-- Wear light colored and loose fitting clothing if you're going to be outside.
-- Remember the sunscreen. Burning your skin will increase dehydration and increase your chance of a heat stroke.
Also remember to avoid caffeinated and alcoholic beverages and just stay inside under air conditioning when you can.
