Task force to look at West End violence

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer on Friday unveiled a new task force to address violence in the West End.

The group is headed by Dr. Blaine Hudson, the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at U of L.  Its goal is to pull together the best ideas and come up with a comprehensive plan for revitalizing west Louisville.

It will start by examining all the public and private programs currently serving youth and young adults there.

Dr. Hudson says, "We've been a diverse community ever since Louisville was settled.  But we haven't always functioned as one community.  Our ultimate goal is to try and achieve that for everybody in this community."

The members of the working group have not yet been named, but it will include the director of the city's department of Public Health and Wellness, as well as the police chief.
