Koch family says Bluegrass Boardwalk may not open until 2014

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The old Kentucky Kingdom property is in even worse shape than anyone realized.  The Koch family, known for its success with Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana, has signed a tentative lease to re-open Kentucky Kingdom as Bluegrass Boardwalk.

In paperwork filed with the Louisville Metro Council, the Kochs went into more detail about the condition of the property.  They say the previous owner, Six Flags, abandoned the property without concern for its future use.

Rides were left in operating state instead of being winterized.  The buildings have significantly deteriorated.  They say most restrooms were left with human waste.

The Kochs have said they may have to delay opening the park until 2014.
