"Hatfields and McCoys" could boost Kentucky tourism
LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- One of the most famous feuds in history is getting the Hollywood treatment, and Kentucky is hoping to cash in.
The History Channel is airing a three part mini-series called "Hatfields and McCoys." The show follows the true story of a clash between two families following the Civil War -- one from Kentucky, the other from West Virginia.
A dozen members of the two families died between 1880 and 1891. The stars of the show say this story is proof that people need to learn from history.
Actor Kevin Costner says, "People from the last century aren't any different from us. That feuds can start over something small, and unless you contain them, the people that are involved in that feud can poison everyone around them.
Costner's co-star Bill Paxton says, "It's kind of a story of what happens when people get obsessed and hatred is unchecked, and this thing was like a tragic calamity."
Kentucky tourism officials hope the miniseries will spark interest in people visiting the sites of one of America's most famous and bloodiest feuds.
