I'll Have Another won't get a free pass at the Triple Crown

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- I'll Have Another will try to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to try to win the Triple Crown Saturday in the Belmont Stakes.

The horse is the 4-5 morning line favorite, but 11 other horses are also trying to win the race.  Their trainers say they know a Triple Crown winner would be good for horse racing, but they're there to win.

Dullahan's trainer Dale Romans says, "No, I don't mind playing the spoiler.  They can boo me all the way back to Louisville."  When asked whether he was trying to win over some New York fans by wearing a Yankees sweatshirt, he replied, "No, I was just cold and that's all you can find in this city.  I left my UK jacket at home."

Bob Baffert, trainer of Paynter, says, "Well, I'm not going in as a spoiler, I'm just going in to try to win a classic race and so, this was always the plan, this wasn't a last-minute thing."

All the trainers WDRB's Tom Lane and Pat Doney spoke with, though, had good things to say about I'll Have Another, and all of them think he has a good chance to pull off the Triple Crown.
