Festival celebrates Greek culture

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands are tasting the Greek culture this weekend.

Food lovers converged on the Belvedere to experience this year's Greek Festival.

Some spent the day dancing.

Others stuffed their faces with authentic food like gyros, olives and everyone's favorite pastry -- baklava.

Volunteers say they prepared 10,000 pastries this weekend.

"We are providing great food, great music, dancing, and I hope that people can enjoy this for what it is. It's just a great experience," says Stephanos Kyriacou.

"This is probably a 20-25 percent increase in turnout from last year, so we're very very happy with the outcome. Of course, beautiful weather has helped out a lot, but a lot of the people come back here for the food year after year, as well as the things we have and the things you can do," says Chris Katakis.

This is the seventh year the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church has hosted the event.
