LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say an employee of Shiraz -- a restaurant specializing in Mediterranean cuisine -- stole roughly $40,000 from his employer.

According to an arrest report, 28-year-old Brendan Zirnheld worked as a manager at the restaurant from September 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012.

While there, he allegedly got into the computer and altered the value of the receipts, adding to the amount designated for tips and voiding the amount of the actual purchases, leaving the total amount charged to the customer unchanged.

Police say he would then take the increased tip amount from the register, stealing money that Zirnheld was, "not entitled to."

This practice took place for months at two Shiraz locations: at Frankfort Avenue, near Bellaire Avenue, and at Poplar Level Road, near Quarry Hill Road, according to an arrest report.

Police say Zirnheld's crimes were discovered after an audit was conducted, at which point it was learned that he had taken roughly $40,000 from the company.

He's been charged with theft and unlawful access to a computer.
