LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The Big East Conference has filed suit against Texas Christian University in an effort to collect $5 million it says the school owes the league for backing out of a membership agreement in 2011, according to a report from Bloomberg.com.
Bloomberg reports that the suit claims TCU "materially breached" its membership contract when it agreed to join the Big 12 Conference in October of last year, and is seeking the $5 million exit fee called for in the contract.
"The Big East made demand for the payment owed under the agreement, but Texas Christian University has refused to make that payment or acknowledge it's obligation to do so," league attorneys wrote in their petition.
TCU now joins Pittsburgh as schools in litigation against the Big East. Pitt is suing the Big East in an effort to leave for the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2013-14 season.
