Boy drowns after slipping through inflatable ring
OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) -- Officials in western Kentucky say an 8-year-old boy has drowned after slipping out of an inflatable ring while playing in a resort pool during a birthday party.
Daviess County Deputy Coroner Darrell Day told the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer that Blaine Jewell was tossing a ball with a girl in the pool Sunday afternoon. Day says the boy had an inflatable ring around his body but it slipped over his arms when he jumped to catch the ball and he went under water.
Day says the girl screamed for help and was able to reach Jewell and hold his head above water. A couple of swimmers started CPR, but Day says the child was pronounced dead at Owensboro Medical Health System.
The incident happened at Diamond Lake Resort pool.
