LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Great Clark County Schools now has a new superintendent.

The school board voted 5-2 to hire Dr. Andrew Melin Monday night.

Dr. Melin comes from Valparaiso Community Schools in northern Indiana.

The meeting started abruptly, with a motion to reinstate Dr. Stephen Daeschner as the schools superintendent.

That motion failed to pass.

Dr. Daeschner's contract was not renewed due to financial reasons.

The new man in charge says he'll keep the district's positive momentum going.

Dr. Melin says, "Academic achievement has been increasing, we could always get better and that's one of the things that I'll be trying to focus on."

An audit brought up in Melin's former school district is no longer being pursued.

Melin will start July 1.
