LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Things are buzzing again at the Newburg Boys and Girls Club, after it had been forced to shut down late last year.
Officials shut it down in October because of financial problems, but a fundraising blitz helped get it running again in January. Now that school is out, the club serves about 120 children each day.
17-year-old Maya Carter explains, "I think it's good, you have less kids running around and kids are actually somewhere doing something, they're active and in a way it's preparing children for when they go back to school."
President and CEO Jennifer Helgeson says, "We have a lot of career programs. We work with the kids on helping them to build their resumes. We have an ACT prep class that we work with kids on, we help them with applying to colleges."
Children can also take advantage of art and game rooms and a gym.
