YMCA tries to break swimming lesson record

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Louisville wants to set the record for the world's largest swim lesson.

More than 100 people of all ages took part in the free event Thursday at Calypso Cove Family Waterpark.

At the same time, people across the world were also learning about water safety.

"It's intended to bring attention to the importance of learning how to swim. It's with a focus on life-long health, building confidence and the safety element," says Steve Tarver, the CEO of the YMCA of Greater Louisville.

The YMCA wants to give all kids the opportunity to learn how to swim.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children between the ages of one and five.
