LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a Louisville man walked into a local retail store and began urinating on the shelves, damaging over $600 worth of merchandise.

It happened at the Cox's Smokers Outlet on Blue Lick Rd., just north of the Gene Snyder Freeway.

Police say 24-year-old Joseph Thompson walked into the store late Thursday afternoon and, "began walking down the isle, urinating all over the merchandise on the shelves."

Police were called, but by the time they arrived, Thompson had already left.

Thompson could be "clearly seen" urinating on the merchandise via surveillance video, according to an arrest report.

While police were there, Thompson allegedly returned and sat down in front of the store. The clerk recognized him, and police confronted him. He allegedly had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and admitted to drinking alcohol.

He was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication.

Over $600 in merchandise had to be thrown away due to the threat of Thompson's urine creating a "bio-hazard" according to the arrest report.

Police say Thompson, "caused alarm and annoyance to patrons and staff."
