LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A 12-year-old boy from Columbus, Indiana, is accused of firing a bullet that grazed a teenage girl.

But he didn't shoot her.

Police say the boy did it when he hit a bullet cartridge with a hammer.

Officers say he was playing with the live ammunition when he hit the cartridge on the sidewalk.

The girl was walking with friends when she felt something hit her neck.

The boy's mother told police she didn't know how the boy got the bullets.

He was taken to a juvenile detention center on a criminal recklessness charge.
