Massive fire hits Indianapolis apartment building

Posted: Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- A 60-unit affordable housing complex in downtown Indianapolis that was scheduled to open this fall has been destroyed by flames.

Indianapolis Housing Agency spokesman Justin Ohlemiler tells The Indianapolis Star that the building destroyed Friday night was part of the 16 Park development. Two other buildings nearby have residents, but a small fire at one of them was quickly extinguished. Still, the American Red Cross is assisting tenants whose power was shut off.

Ohlemiler says the three-building complex cost $34 million.
