LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A candle is to blame for an apartment fire in west Louisville Tuesday morning.

Fire officials say two people were asleep when the fire broke out just after 11 a.m. at 32nd Street and West Muhammad Ali Blvd., but were able to get out. They were treated for smoke inhalation and released at the scene.

It took 23 firefighters 19 minutes to get the flames under control. Fire crews say there were no smoke detectors in the apartment.

Damage to the apartment is estimated at $20,000.
