INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- NCAA director of enforcement Bill Benjamin has resigned, eight months after taking the job.
Stacey Osburn, an NCAA spokeswoman, confirmed the resignation Wednesday night in an email to The Associated Press.
Osburn says Benjamin resigned last week and his final day at the NCAA will be June 11. Osburn says Benjamin left to "pursue other opportunities."
Benjamin played college football at San Jose State, served as a Marine and spent 28 years in law enforcement. In November, he left his job as deputy chief of police for the Indianapolis Police Department to take one of 12 redefined positions at the NCAA. At the time, vice president of enforcement Julie Roe Lach said Benjamin would lead a team of football-focused investigators to help the NCAA.
