JD Shelbourne Plays at Benefit Concert called Makin' Music, Makin' Waves

The admission is only $10 for adults, Children 10 and under are free. All of the admission price and vendors are donating the proceeds to Jamie Andriot to help pay her medical and living expenses in her battle with cancer. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for Jamie.

Cattleman's Roadhouse is providing all of the food and Gigi's cupcakes has donated cupcakes. Harry's Kettle Corn will also be at the event. There will be inflatables and face painting for children. We have a total of nine VERY popular bands playing from 1:30pm-11pm from this area such as New Breed, CameronJayne & 86 Black, and Thomas Hood.

Shine On Louisville Music Fest Celebrates Mental Health and Wellness

Promoting the importance of mental wellness as an essential element of our community's overall health, Seven Counties Services, and the Mayor's Healthy Hometown Movement and other community partners, will present the first Shine On Louisville Music Fest on Friday, July 20, 2012. This event, open to all at no charge, will feature some of our region's top musical acts in an evening of melody and relaxation. CenterStage at the Jewish Community Center launches a season of award-winning, thought-provoking theater with RENT, which will run July 12-29 in the Linker Auditorium (3600 Dutchmans Lane). Based on Puccini's La Boheme, the show ran for 12 years on Broadway and won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Musical. Extending that mission, CenterStage will collect donations on behalf of several local HIV/AIDS charitable organizations at each performance. In addition, the cast will perform during the Louisville Pride parade and at the Pride Festival on the Belvedere on Saturday June 16.

Science in Play gallery

A new exhibit specially designed to encourage science learning through the lens of play for children ages 3-7 and their caregivers. It celebrates the innate curiosity in children and connects science to everyday play.

Science in Play is a customized new exhibit, commissioned by and built specifically for the Science Center. It will serve as a test bed for a comprehensive upgrade of the Science Center's first floor to an expanded early childhood zone. This first phase will encompass 5,800 square feet and will be divided into six separate activity zones: The Sensory Course, Testing Area, Big Build, Small Build, Science Depot, and Shapes & Stuff Store. Rich in loose parts, sensory and intuitive materials, children and their caregivers will be invited to build, test, imagine, problem solve and engineer, behaving and thinking like scientists-all while playing. Signage will be designed and used to assist caregivers in interpreting play as learning. The experience will ultimately span about 12,000 square feet and is anticipated to open in 2014.

Admission to the exhibit is free with museum admission, which is $13 for adults, $11 for children ages 2-12, and free for Science Center members.

Yew Dell's Botanical Gardens 5th Annual Garden Sculpture Show

This year over 23 artists will display 50 of their sculptures throughout the beautiful gardens and arboretum at Yew Dell. All sculptures are for sale and a portion of the proceeds benefit YDBG, prices range from $125-$25,000. The event will provide guests an opportunity to mingle with artists and enjoy wonderful appetizers from The Cheddar Box, Limestone Restaurant, Mayan Café and Wiltshire Pantry.

Yew Dell Botanical Gardens is a 34-acre public botanical garden and horticulture resource center dedicated to helping people develop beautiful and sustainable gardens across the region. Yew Dell offers garden, plant & environmental educational programs for all levels; these programs include formal lectures, informal hands-on workshops, casual plant walks and community events.

The exhibit is free with regular admission.

The first tour will be July 14th.

One Saturday a month, the executive director of the Arts Council of Southern Indiana, Julie Schweitzer, will lead a tour of the local galleries and artiest studios.

Vistors get meet gallery owners and artists.

Some tours will include demostrations, such as Main Street GlassWorks or Frankfort Avenue's Kaviar Forge. Each month is a different Gallery that can be in Louisville and Southern Indiana.

Tours will last four to five hours and there will be a break for lunch.
Tickets are $30 and do not include meals.

Then again July 28 with The Headstones and Elvis Tribute artist Don Goodfleisch and the movie Viva Las Vegas.

Guests may bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

No tents or canopies allowed.

The Speed Art Museum Presents Going for the Gold: Selections from the Kebric Olympic Collection

Coinciding with the 2012 summer Olympics opening in late July, this exhibition features twenty-seven Olympic torches, posters, and banners from the private collection of Dr. Robert Kebric, senior professor of Ancient Greek and Roman History at the University of Louisville.

Museum hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Friday 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (open late); Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Galleries are closed on Monday and Tuesday.

NABC Celebrates 25th anniversary with event on NA Riverfront

The New Albanian Brewing Company will mark a quarter-century of existence with a day-long picnic and concert at New Albany's Riverfront Amphitheater on Sunday, July 22, 2012. As most readers probably know, nowadays the original location near Grant Line Road is known as the NABC Pizzeria & Public House, incorporating Sportstime, Rich O's Public House (1992) and the 2002 addition of craft brewing on site. NABC's most recent progeny (2009) is NABC Bank Street Brewhouse, located in New Albany's historic business district downtown.

"25 Years of Beer & Loathing" is what we're calling the event. NABC's 25th anniversary celebration will be a day-long musical, family-friendly event with food, activities and refreshments suitable for all ages. The venue is New Albany's Riverfront Amphitheater, from 10:00 am to sundown on Sunday, July 22.

The Amphitheater is located by the Ohio River in downtown New Albany, with ample parking available by the levee at the foot of Pearl Street. There is no cover charge for this event, and it'll be cash only for food, drinks and vending. Proceeds after expenses will be disbursed in the form of grants to Rauch Inc., the Isabel Jade Pickhardt Fund and New Albany First.

Homearama 2012July 14-29

Homearama showcases local builders and craftsmen and combines ideas abotu decorating, energy effeciency and home improvemnets.

There are 17 homes on two sites during the event.

Ten houses are at Rock Spring on HWY 22/Ballardsville developed by RJ Thienenman Company

There is a community playground and nature trail built into the neighborhood for all residents' use

Seven are at Shakes Run off of Shelbyville Road in Eastwood developed by Elite Homes, Inc.

The homes at Shakes Run are near the club house, which now includes a community pool.

It's sponsored by Republic Bank and RiverCity Flooring.

The Building Industry Charitable Foundation of the Home Builders Association of Louisville has teamed up with Kosair Charities and YouthBuild Louisville for the second year to two play houses for deserving Kosair Kids.

The homes will be on display for the public to view during the annual Homearama event.

One playhouse will be on site in each neighborhood.

THE LOUISVILLE QUEST!

The Quest is a fun, competitive way to explore downtown Louisville.

The Louisville Quest! is a race, scavenger hunt and historical, sight-seeing tour, all rolled into one. Teams of 2 - 5 participants will compete as they walk (or run) from one location to another in downtown Louisville. The teams will perform activities, answer challenge questions and solve puzzles to get to their final destination in the least amount of time - All for fun and to discover what downtown Louisville has to offer!

The Louisville Quest! targets annual convention visitors and regional corporations as well as local residents to provide an educational and entertaining event. The event will give participants a glimpse of the sights, museums, restaurants and stores that downtown Louisville has to offer, enticing them to return for future visits.

Each Saturday, participants will run one of five routes that include locations such as 21C, Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, the Belle of Louisville and the Belvedere, with challenges along the way.

Each Quest ends with an Award Ceremony where teams earn bragging rights and token awards at a downtown restaurant or other fun location.
