LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is accused of stealing chain link fence from one church, then crashing into a second church and causing over $1,000 in damage.
Christopher Ray Elliott, age 33, was allegedly seen outside the Spirit of the Living God church on E. Indian Trail, near Dahl Road, shortly after 9 a.m. on April 25.
Police say he and an accomplice were stealing chain link fence worth $200.
After police stopped them and began questioning them, Elliott got in a vehicle and drove away, "nearly striking" one of the officers.
One of the police officers pursued Elliott with his lights and sirens activated, but Elliott refused to stop, according to an arrest report.
Police say the pursuit ended when Elliott crashed into a church on Vim Drive, east of the intersection of Preston Hwy. and Gilmore Lane, causing roughly $1,000 in damage to the property.
According to an arrest report, he then fled to a nearby garage and hid inside. Police sent a K-9 into the garage, and Elliott was bitten. He was then taken into custody.
Elliott was then transported to University Hospital for his injuries.
He was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with theft, wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading police, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief.
