SPARTA, KY. (WDRB) -- A traffic plan is in place to help thousands of race fans get to and from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series next week. Kentucky Speedway has made changes meant to help fans avoid the traffic nightmare that stopped people in their tracks last year.
The track spent millions on a consulting firm to help fix the problem. One of the first changes you'll see includes six lanes of traffic in and out of the track, compared to just three in both directions last year. In addition, a new parking vendor has been brought in and thousands of parking spaces have been added.
Kentucky State Police will also now be in charge of both traffic and parking.

Another part of the plan is to hold vehicle traffic for 30 minutes after the race to allow some of the foot traffic to clear out of the way.
Last summer was the first chance for the Kentucky Speedway to host the Quaker State 400. It took thousands of fans hours to get to the track -- many missed the race altogether.
The track will use local media, roadside message boards, Facebook and Twitter to provide constant traffic and parking updates ahead of the Sprint Cup Series June 30th.
