Boone County to get first soup kitchen

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) -- The first soup kitchen in Boone County will open later this year thanks to an anonymous donor.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports the Mary Rose Mission was able to hire a construction company in June after getting the $150,000 contribution. That means after more than a year of delays in the project, crews are working on the facility full time and expect to finish in September.

The facility had been dependent on the uncertain schedules of volunteers to finish the project.

The Mary Rose Mission was inspired to open a soup kitchen after finding out that local families were going hungry. Other places in northern Kentucky, including the Parish Kitchen in Covington and the Hosea House in Newport, serve meals daily.
