I-65 bridge construction slows traffic and business

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The congestion on I-65 over the Ohio River may be unbearable Monday morning.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials say traffic was delayed nearly one hour Friday afternoon and could be much worse Monday.

In order to ease the pain, crews delayed closing the ramps from 65 north to 64 east and west.

They are currently working on some adjustments to traffic flow.

The traffic delays are not only affecting commuters, but businesses as well.

Gregory Mayer, a manager at Bristol Bar and Grill, in Jefferson says Sunday was one of the slowest days he's seen in a long time.

"Luckily we do get a lot of business from the Jefferson area but coming up this next week, we're really going to see how it affects our business that comes from downtown Louisville," says Mayer.

Restaurants in southern Indiana have already felt the pinch in their pocketbook when the Sherman Minton shut down for several months.

They say the timing of this bridge project could not be worse.

The exit ramps from 65 south to 64 east and west are closed.

They delayed closing the ramps from 65 north to 64 east and west, until Monday night at 8:00.
