400 jobs available for Louisville youth

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- 400 new jobs are available to Louisville's youth.  Mayor Greg Fischer made the announcement Wednesday afternoon at Kosair Children's Hospital where some of the jobs are.

It's part of the SummerWorks 2012 program.  Louisville businesses, foundations, leaders, and Metro Council have helped with donating more than $1 million for the program.

The mayor says the donation doubles what was given last year.  Participants work for seven weeks during the summer.  The jobs will help fill the void Kentucky Kingdom left behind when it closed.

Mayor Fischer explains, "We want those jobs back so we can take control of our own destiny here and create a SummerWorks program for low-income youth and then add this entrepreneurship training to it as well."

Those interested in the jobs should contact KentuckianaWorks at http://www.kentuckianaworks.org/
