LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested Tuesday after authorities say he caused an explosion while manufacturing methamphetamine.

Police say it happened June 26, shortly before 3 p.m. in the 300 block of Southwestern Parkway, near Herman Street.

Authorities say 26-year-old Cory Gibson was making meth in a residence at that location. The resulting explosion caused fire damage to a residence there. The fire department responded to the scene.

"This act created a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to the general public and firefighters," authorities say.

Gibson has been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.

This is not Gibson's first run-in with the law.

According to court records, Gibson was charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence on April 6, 2007. Police were called after the body of a woman was discovered next to a dumpster at the corner of Crums Lane and Manslick Road.

The body was that of Zoann McCampbell, a dancer at the Win, Place and Show Lounge. Prosecutors say McCampbell had accompanied Gibson "on a prostitution date" to the Louisville Manor Hotel days earlier. According to court records, Gibson admitted to accidentally strangling her during sex and dumping her body by the dumpster.

According to court documents, Dr. Bill Ralston of the Medical Examiner's Office testified that the medical evidence was inconsistent with an "accidental" strangulation.

On June 1, Gibson pleaded guilty to manslaughter and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. He was sentenced to serve a total of 10 years in jail.

According to Lisa Lamb, a spokeswoman for the Kentucky Corrections Department, Gibson was paroled on June 18. Thus, his arrest came nine days after his release.
