NASCAR fans beat the heat to watch race

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41)---The NASCAR races are underway at the Kentucky Speedway.

On Thursday, fans watched some of their favorite drivers practicing for Friday's race, and enjoyed some truck racing.

The heat was the one issue everyone seemed to be dealing with.

"Quite frankly I'm worried about it. I wore this silly hat to cover my face the best that I could, because I'm on heart medication," says Dennis Forte of Ohio.

Ambulances were on standby inside the Kentucky Speedway, just in case they were needed. Cooling stations also stayed busy outside.

"That's why I said I'm taking as much cold air in as I can from the Chill Zone. This is great. I'm glad they thought of it," says Rita Reichenbach of Louisville.

"It is very hot out here! I can barely stand it," says Colton Beach of Dry Ridge, Kentucky.

The drink of choice was whatever was cool and iced down.

Slushies and water were a big hit with fans.

"Mainly sell more water than beer today because the temperatures so hot out here," says Wes Brockie of Louisville.

Some fans say, while the traffic kept some people from enjoying the Quaker State 400 last year, for now they seemed to be more concerned with the heat.

It's why seats in the shade seem to be the best seats in the house this year.

There will be much more racing over the next 2 days at the Kentucky Speedway. This includes Friday's Feed the Children 300 race and Saturday's Quaker State 400 race.
