LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WDRB) -- Police are searching for a Grayson County jail inmate whom they say climbed a fence and later drove himself to Lexington.

State police say Joshua L. McDowell, 22, fled the jail at Leitchfield on foot, later hitched a ride with an 18-year-old man, took over driving the car and drove to Lexington, where he let himself out.

Police believe McDowell may be in the Irishtown neighborhood.

McDowell's described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 lbs. and last seen wearing a grey t-shirt with "inmate" imprinted on the back.  He was also wearing blue work pants and white tennis shoes.

McDowell was a state of Kentucky inmate held at the Grayson County Detention Center, serving a three-year sentence for burglary.  McDowell now is charged with escape.  More charges are possible, police said.

Police ask you to call if you've seen McDowell or know of his whereabouts.  Kentucky State Police can be reached at 1-800-222-5555.
