GREENCASTLE, Ind. (AP) -- Authorities say a central Indiana police officer who was responding to a reported domestic disturbance fatally shot a man who charged at the officer.

28-year-old Charles Aaron Brousard of Greencastle was pronounced dead at the scene early Sunday by the Putnam County Coroner.

State police say the officer in the city about 38 miles west of Indianapolis went to a home on Sycamore Street after police received a report of a domestic disturbance involving a man and a woman. When the officer arrived, police say the man charged and a scuffle ensued during which the officer shot the man.

Emergency medics and police were unable to save the man.

Police have not released the name of the officer involved in the shooting, which is being investigated by state police.
