Police investigating reports of gunfire, carjacking

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD officers have set up a staging area in the 1300 block of Bernheim Lane near 7th and Algonquin.

According to LMPD spokeswoman Officer Carey Klain, police responded to reports of a carjacking between 5 and 6 a.m. Klain says several robberies were reported in the area, including the carjacking.

There were also reports of one or more shots fired from a high-powered rifle.

We're told no one was hit by the gunfire.

At this time, there is no description of the suspect or suspects, the vehicle involved in the carjacking or the possible direction of travel. We're told the suspects got away with at least a car and a purse.

Police have been canvassing the neighborhood and knocking on doors on Bernheim and surrounding streets near Dixie Highway after getting tips that the suspect(s) may be in the area.

Klain says police got the first robbery report around 5 a.m., and several other robberies that occurred, including one at 7th and Algonquin, one at Ashley Road and another at Bernheim Lane.

Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous crime tipline at 574-LMPD (574-5673).
