LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police arrested a Louisville man late Saturday night after they say he shot off fireworks during a burn ban.
It happened on Willowood Way, near Jeffersontown High School, shortly after 9:30 p.m.
Police say they were called to a home in that area three times after they received complaints of noise and fireworks. When they arrived, they allegedly found a large number of people drinking alcoholic beverages and setting off fireworks, both in the front yard and in the street.
During the first incident, police told 23-year-old Jason Roberts that his conduct and that of his guests was causing "considerable disturbance" in the neighborhood. Roberts was told to stop shooting off fireworks because of an active burn ban that was in place due to hot weather and dry conditions.
He was also told that if he failed to stop, he could face a disorderly conduct charge.
This took place twice. In each instance, police say Roberts told them he would cease shooting fireworks.
But after the second incident, officers say they noticed "large projectile fireworks" going off in the area of the home.
Police say they made a "covert approach" and witnessed Roberts and his friends shooting off fireworks. They say Roberts, "appeared intoxicated and had a confrontational tone" with officers when they approached.
He was eventually arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication.
