U of L to rely more on fundraising than state money

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A lack in state funding means that for the first time, the University of Louisville will rely more on its own fundraising.

U of L President James Ramsey says it's an ominous sign that state officials aren't as focused on providing college education as they once were.  In next year's budget, U of L will get about $141 million from the state.

Funding from the school's own foundation will account for nearly $142 million in its operating budget, or $640,000 more than what the state is paying to educate students.

U of L's foundation raises money through gifts from individuals and corporations.
