LOUISVILLE, KY. (July 4, 2012) –Crews are finishing concrete paving today on the southbound lanes of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge. Once this work is complete, motorists will see changes Thursday morning to the traffic patterns on Interstate 65 across the bridge. Currently, traffic is restricted to one lane for southbound I-65 and two lanes for northbound I-65.
This evening crews will move the barrier walls to begin repairs on the northbound lanes of the bridge. Traffic will be switched to one lane for northbound I-65 and two lanes for southbound I-65. This change in traffic pattern will be in place by 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 5th and is scheduled to continue through July 13th.
The exit ramps from southbound I-65 to eastbound I-64/northbound I-71 and westbound I-64 are scheduled to reopen this evening.
During the overnight hours, crews will close the ramps from westbound I-64 and southbound I-71 to northbound I-65 and the northbound I-65 exit ramp to Jeffersonville (Exit 0). These ramps (shown in red) will be closed by 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 5th are scheduled to remain closed through July 13th.
Motorists traveling on westbound I-64 and southbound I-71 should follow the signed detour via westbound I-64 into southern Indiana to eastbound I-265 and then access northbound I-65.
The exit ramps from northbound I-65 to eastbound I-64/northbound I-71 and westbound I-64 are currently closed and will remain closed through 5 a.m. on July 9th. Motorists should follow the signed detour via I-264.
The following ramps continue to be closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project:
- The exit ramp from eastbound I-64 to northbound I-65 in Kentucky
- The exit ramp from southbound I-65 to Market Street in Indiana
- The entrance ramp from Court Avenue to southbound I-65 in Indiana
All work is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 15, 2012. The schedule and duration of work are subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
