LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A federal appeals court has upheld Karen Sypher's extortion conviction.
The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals found that Sypher's attorneys didn't make the case for overturning her conviction.
She was convicted in 2010 of extortion, lying to the FBI, and retaliating against a witness.
Prosecutors say she tried to get money from U of L basketball coach Rick Pitino to stay quiet about a sexual encounter they had in a Louisville restaurant.
She is serving a seven-year sentence in Marianna, Fla.
