BRANDENBURG, Ky. (WDRB) -- The search for a missing yoga instructor takes a turn for the worse late this afternoon. Officials say they have reason to believe the Louisville woman is dead.
For the second day, officials will use boats to search the Ohio River for any sign of the missing woman. Thursday, friends and family wait patiently for any news on their loved one, 37-year-old Carrie Ruffra. She disappeared after teaching a yoga class Tuesday night in Louisville at Baptist Milestone, where friends say she'd been teaching for years. It was the last time anyone saw her. She called her husband at 11 o'clock that night.
The next morning, July 4th, police knew where to find her car at Otter Creek Park in Meade County, after concerned family members called officials. Family members say they often camped there. "They were concerned about her, she was missing, gave us some information on what she looked like, her state of mind, and we initiated a search for the vehicle and found it almost immediately," said Charles Logsdon, with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.
An LMPD chopper, dozens of firefighters, and a few boats searched for any sign of her. But Thursday, the mission changed. Officials say the yoga instructor, wife, and mom left behind a note at her workplace. "There has been some information that makes it look like it was a potential suicide. And we are now moving into that recovery stage," Logsdon added.
The family says she has two young children.
