Lou. records first heat-related death

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WDRB) -- A Goshen, Ky., man has become the Louisville area's first heat-related fatality.

The Jefferson County coroner's office says 54-year-old Erin Kennedy died Thursday afternoon, two days before what would have been his 55th birthday.

A friend found him collapsed in the driveway of a home in the 100 block of Blankenbaker Lane.

Kennedy had collapsed in the driveway and may have lay in the driveway as long as 2 1/2 hours, deputy coroner Jack Arnold said.  Kennedy had been visiting at his friend's home.

Kennedy had "underlying medical conditions," but his death was a direct result of the heat, Arnold said.

Temperatures exceeded 100 degrees in Louisville on Thursday.
