Parents reminded of dangers of leaving a child in a hot car

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Several parents in Kentucky and Indiana have left children in hot cars recently, some with deadly consequences.  That's why Kosair Children's Hospital is reminding parents of the dangers of child heat stroke.

Doctors say they treat children who were left in hot cars every year in the local emergency room.  A lot of times, it's accidental.  But in other cases, parents think its OK to run into the store for just a minute.

Dr. Ron Paul of Kosair says, "I think some parents think it only happens when its 100-95 degree weather.  It's not, it can be much cooler, when the sun is heating up in that bright car and things start cooking in that car like an oven and so the temperature rises very quickly."

Louisville has had one child death this year after a father forgot his child was in the back seat and left him for several hours while he went to work.
