Brian Brohm remembers his surprise teammate when he worked out for New Orleans.
If you read my column about former Trinity High School and University of Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm on Tuesday, you know his football career hasn't advanced the way he expected.
We are two weeks before the start of camp, and Brohm does not have an NFL invitation after missing all of last season in the UFL.
But he did keep pounding on doors during the off-season, working out for Detroit, New Orleans and San Francisco.
And it was the workout in New Orleans last March that Brohm will never forget.
Because his receiver was perennial All-Pro Randy Moss – and Brohm didn't know Moss was going to be there until the night before the workout.
I'll let him tell the story:
"No one told me who was I throwing to," Brohm said.
Not the Saints? Not your agent?
"No," he said. "Flew me down there. Nobody told me who I was throwing to.
"I get there. I'm in hotel the night before, kind of scrolling through Twitter. I think it was Adam Schefter (of ESPN) who was tweeting that Randy Moss was working out for the Saints the next day.
"I thought, ‘That's kind of interesting.' I texted my agent, (David Dunn of Athletes First), and asked, ‘I am throwing to Randy Moss tomorrow?' "
He was. Moss -- and only Moss. No pressure there.
"Get up the next morning and it's me and Randy Moss in the lobby of the hotel, waiting for a ride," Brohm said.
"They told me there were multiple receivers. But there weren't. (Suspended Saints coach) Sean Payton ran the workout.
"I threw about 45 balls. He was pretty phenomenal in my opinion. Caught everything that was even close to him. I thought I had a really good day. There was maybe one ball that I wasn't happy with, which was a deep ball that he outran me pretty good on.
"They brought me back in their rookie mini-camp in early May."
The workout did not lead to a contract with the Saints for the 2012 season for Brohm – or for Moss. But it's quite a memory.
