LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a Louisville woman assaulted her own 87-year-old mother after she fell down in the bathtub.
According to an arrest warrant, the event took place on June 29. Police say 54-year-old Cheryl Payton was providing care for her elderly mother, when her mother fell down in her bathtub.
But instead of helping her, police say Payton added to her difficulties. Police say Payton refused to let her mother climb out of the tub. Instead, she held her down and turned on the cold water.
When the woman's son heard what was going on, he stopped Payton, according to the warrant.
Police say the woman, who was already in poor health, suffered bruising on her arms, legs and lower back from the attack.
It wasn't the first time Payton had threatened her Mom, according to the warrant. Police say she had told her the day before that, "It wouldn't be much for me to put a bullet in your head."
The woman is afraid for her safety, according to police.
Payton has been charged with knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult, assault, menacing and terroristic threatening. She was arrested shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
